Can I Meet Therapy Clients at a Bar?

Updated: 10 hours ago

Armando, I’m glad we met at the bar last night. I haven’t been out in a long time! I missed the new perspective and fresh energy that a new face brings. You and your friends brought that back to me.

Your restaurant crew seemed so tight, and no matter what bonds you together, I could tell it’s special what you have. I wonder if it’s the fact that you all deeply love making food to serve others. So much so, that you’ve cultivated and refined a deep skill set, together. I’m sure there’s been sweat and conflict, and then coming together again. But, also growing together with your individual goals being the same. High-end cuisine probably requires high standards on so many levels - detail and refinement in the presentation, flavor, people skills, texture, pairing. It sounds fun!

You asked me what I did, and I had a hard time explaining it. See, I never ever thought I’d be a therapist. I was an engineer (starting in college). I always loved math and science, and level-headedness…haha, if that’s a word!

But, after awhile something was deeply missing in my life. My ability to share myself vulnerably was stifled by a lot of archaic programming, childhood “wounding” or conditioning. I loved and longed to be deeply connected in a familly way to others - sharing meals, affection, our lives. But, it seemed to elude me, and I was not happy…actually pretty depressed about it…and sad…and mad.

So, therapy found me. Long story short, I help people feel safe, so they CAN be vulnerable in relationship with others - parents, lovers, friends, and with themself (since that’s often that hardest relationship to have!).

If you want to connect more, reach out. We can explore what’s bringing you joy, what’s getting in the way, and how you really want to be nurtured into the next phase of your life.
